The Macmerry Recycling Centre has closed as of today. This is being described as a “temporary measure” by East Lothian Council. The nearest alternative is the Kinwegar Recycling Centre, just east of Wallyford on the A199.

Many local residents are fearful that this may become a permanent closure. Clearly there are also concerns over the risk of increased fly tipping, the greater cumulative distance to be driven to use alternative locations, and the ability of alternative facilities to cope with the increased demand.
