In November 2024 the Community Council along with local residents launched a series of surveys about the future of the Saltoun Parish area. We were delighted by the response from the community. The idea was to help inform a process to create a Local Place Plan for the area representing the views of the community which, once adopted by East Lothian Council, would be attached to the Local Development Plan for East Lothian.
After having collated the results from 100 or more respondents we would like to present them to the community so that everyone can see the combined responses for themselves.
There will also be an opportunity for everyone to add comments to further enrich the data.
The survey results will be on display in the Fletcher Hall in East Saltoun on Sunday 9th March, 12-5pm and on Monday 10th March 7-9pm. Please come along to view these findings and to add any additional information that will enhance the Local Place Plan submission.
The Saltoun Community Association have been kind enough to contribute wine and soft drinks to make the event just that bit more sociable. Many thanks for their generosity.
If you have not already done so, keep in touch with community information from the Community Council by subscribing to our distribution list. If you received the surveys you are already on the list.
Around 60 people attended the meeting on Monday evening at Saltoun Parish Church to decide on whether or not the community should to seek to purchase and develop the building. Following a good natured discussion a vote was taken of those present with 21 against the proposal to purchase and develop, and 18 in favour. Consequently the meeting concluded that the community was not in favour of this proposal and the Community Council has written to the Church of Scotland to inform them of this decision.
Thank you to all who have been engaged in this discussion and have brought forward their knowledge, questions and insights to help inform the community as a whole.

The new East Saltoun Christmas Tree lights were turned on tonight accompanied by a wonderful turnout of local residents. It was great to see so many people there and to sing some carols together. Well done to Holly and the team for organising the tree and lights, and to the Saltoun Community Association for arranging the event tonight with hot chocolate and cocoa. The Community Council was very pleased to be able provide support for the purchase of the tree and lights.
