Help SEPA identify local flood risks

SEPA have launched a consultation to review areas most at risk of flooding across Scotland. These places will be given the designation Potential Vulnerable Areas (PVAs). PVAs are areas where significant flood risk exists now or is likely to occur in the future and are used to identify locations where a partnership approach may be required to resolve widespread and often complex flooding issues.

SEPA want to hear the views of people in communities on the proposed PVAs. After the consultation closes on 24 June 2024, they will publish a summary of responses on their website. To find out more please follow the link to the SEPA PVA survey.

Green Futures Festival

East Lothian Climate Hub is organising the Green Futures Festival, a series of inspirational talks, practical workshops, a showcase of local activities and climate visions for a bright future.

This is an opportunity to connect and learn more about local District heat networks, Tool libraries, Nature restoration, Retrofitting, Community farms, Climate Cafes, and more. Activities for families inside and outdoors, local bands and food. Loose parts play, willow weaving, mini beast hunts, woodland activities and explore the grounds.

This festival will bring together individuals, community groups and organisations to share and learn about amazing work already taking place in East Lothian and build a vision for a positive future for our environment and people.

Macmerry Recycling Centre Closure

The Macmerry Recycling Centre has closed as of today. This is being described as a “temporary measure” by East Lothian Council. The nearest alternative is the Kinwegar Recycling Centre, just east of Wallyford on the A199.

Many local residents are fearful that this may become a permanent closure. Clearly there are also concerns over the risk of increased fly tipping, the greater cumulative distance to be driven to use alternative locations, and the ability of alternative facilities to cope with the increased demand.

If you wish to comment on this closure the Community Council has been advised to direct residents to Tom Reid, Head of Infrastructure, East Lothian Council at [email protected].
