Dead wild birds: what to do

Help control the spread of avian flu amongst wild birds

East Lothian Council have been publicising the risks associated with dead or sick wild birds.

Wild birds can carry several diseases that are infectious to people, so do not touch or pick up any dead or visibly sick birds that you find.

If you find a single dead bird of prey, gull or wildfowl species (particularly wild geese, wild ducks, swans), or find five or more birds of any other species in the same location and at the same time, please report these incidents to Defra’s national telephone helpline (03459 33 55 77 – please select option 7).

Further information is available from the Scottish Government regarding bird flu, including latest reports, one of which was at North Berwick.

The Scottish Government have also produced an information sheet for owners of birds to help protect their birds from the risk of bird flu.

Report a Pothole

After the winter weather many of the roads around the district are in need of some repair. Small cracks in the road and areas of damage can quickly increase in size leading to large potholes which can easily cause punctures and damage to vehicles. Potholes are also a distraction for drivers, potentially leading to accidents with other vehicles. These risks are much increased at night time on dark country lanes.

You can notify East Lothian Council of new potholes through their Report a Pothole map. Just navigate to the appropriate location on the map and click. You can add additional information in a text box and then record your own details. It is complete in just a few minutes.

Help us keep our roads safe by reporting a pothole today.

ELC Schools Questionnaire

East Lothian Council’s vision is to develop a modern, safe, sustainable learning estate that enhances and supports communities while improving the lives of families equally no matter what area they are in. They are undertaking a pre-consultation activity which will help to inform a review of the Learning Estate.

An online survey has been created to gather views from the community. This feedback will help inform how they move forward with a full Learning Estate Review.

The pre-consultation public survey will be open from Monday 22nd February until Monday 15th March, during which time the survey will be accessible on the East Lothian Council Consultation Hub.
